On Friday November 8, 2024, Pamiers paid an exceptional tribute to Gabriel Fauré, a major figure in French music and a child prodigy of the city, on the occasion of the centenary of his national funeral. This memorable day, the culmination of an entire year of commemorations, was marked by several events in honor of the composer.
The celebrations began at 5 p.m. with the renaming of the Pamiers music conservatory, now named Gabriel Fauré Conservatory. This symbolic gesture aims to anchor Fauré's legacy in musical education in the region.
At 6 p.m., a sculpture bearing the effigy of Gabriel Fauré, created by the sculptor M. Langloÿs and offered by the Musique au Pays de Gabriel Fauré association, was inaugurated at Place Notre-Dame-du-Camp, a significant place for the composer. “By placing this sculpture in a central location, we wish to remind people that art can transform our perception of the world and inspire future generations,” underlined Frédérique Thiennot, the mayor of Pamiers.
To end this day in style, an exceptional recital by Jean-Philippe Collard, renowned pianist and member of the Academy of Fine Arts, took place at the Salle du Jeu du Mail, offering the inhabitants of Pamiers and music enthusiasts a unique musical moment.
