They did it, they are there!!!! The Lourdais of FCL Rugby return to Fédérale 1, ten years after their last match at this level of rugby against CA Lannemezan. On June 1, after 80 difficult and committed minutes, against USC Nay, the Lourdais not only validated their promotion to Federal 1 for next season, but they also obtained their ticket for the final phase of Federal 2. Next Sunday, in Rion-des-Landes (40), a third phase of the championship begins. They will play a decisive match against Union Athlétique Gujan-Mestras (33). After the group stage and the rounds of the final stages offering the 8 tickets for Federal 1, it is now the direct elimination phase (quarters, semi-finals and final). Up to three matches, three meetings to make this season more exciting than it already is for the players, staff and supporters. At the end, there is the Holy Grail for every rugby player: the French champion shield. However, we are not there yet.
On Saturday June 1st, against a valiant team from US Coarraze-Nay, it was a whole white-hot stadium, for its last round of the year, which supported the FCL. The Lourdais, although trailing at half-time, were able to reverse the course of the match. The final whistle from the referee of the match made the stadium explode with drunkenness and joy, sending the men of Dulong and Masseboeuf to the higher division next year.
This Sunday, Loncan’s men will travel to the Landes, to face, on neutral ground (direct elimination match), players from UA GM. This match will pit two big teams from Fédérale 2, both having finished at the top of their group. The players from the Arcachon basin, to reach this stage of the competition, defeated CSM Gennevilliers (92) in the round of 16 with a cumulative score of 68 to 48 (8 to 1 on field points) and in the 8th of final of the US Tours, 77 to 32 (9 to 1).
This match will see the players from the Marian city play against a team playing last year in Federal 1. The Gujanais have since the start of the season a record of 20 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in 26 outings, while the Lourdais have a record of 20 victories for 6 defeats. The Bigourdans will be opposed to a solid team having scored 36 points per match for 21 conceded, while the players from the Marian city are at 22 points scored for 17 conceded. Note that the Girondins were in a less homogeneous group than that of the Lourdais. Everyone behind the Lourdais to continue dreaming in red and blue!!!!
Sunday June 16, 3:00 p.m. : meeting between FC Lourdes and UA Gujan-Mestras at the Bernard Ducamp stadium in Rion-des-Landes. Meeting arbitrated by Mr. Lamoliate (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) accompanied by MM. Dufau Dussarat and Darrieux assistant referee (Nouvelle-Aquitaine).
