Invested by the Socialist Party, the outgoing deputy for the 2nd constituency, David Taupiac, will not be opposed by a candidate from the new left alliance for these 2024 legislative elections. In the 1st constituency, Pascal Levieux and Annabelle Hemery are returning to the campaign for the New Popular Front.

While candidates for deputy have until 6 p.m. this Sunday, June 16, to submit their declaration of candidacy to the prefecture, in Gers, the situation is becoming clearer on the left. Following the agreement concluded by the various parties leading to the creation of the New Popular Front, the 1st constituency was allocated to La France Insoumise (LFI) and the 2nd to the Socialist Party (PS).

As announced, in the 1st constituency, the New Popular Front will therefore be represented, as in 2022, by the LFI candidate, Pascal Levieux. He will lead these two weeks of campaigning with Annabelle Hemery. A candidacy “endorsed” by the Gers PS during its federal council on June 15.

For the second constituency, the outgoing deputy, David Taupiac, returned to the campaign as soon as the dissolution of the Assembly was announced, with Carole Rolando at his side. And, unlike the last elections, he will have no competition from the left alliance, even if he will not campaign under the banner of the New Popular Front. “The LFI in responsibilities will respect these national commitments by not presenting any candidacy against the outgoing deputy of the 2nd constituency”, affirm Pascal Levieux and Annabelle Hemery in a press release.

“He is the candidate nominated by the Socialist Party at the national level, he is best able to beat the right and the extreme right,” writes the local PS in a press release. “We know that he will represent the values of the left, social justice, the defense of public services and rurality in the National Assembly.”

The New Popular Front now calls for unity to “defeat without any hesitation the National Rally and Jean-Luc Yelma, holding an ultraliberal, authoritarian program, which presents a danger for our democracy and our freedoms”, continues the socialist press release. . “We also consider the defeat of Jean-René Cazeneuve, the outgoing MP, as necessary to finally break with the government’s program of social brutality.”

For Pascal Levieux and Annabelle Hemery, who carry the “program to break the New Popular Front”, “the involvement of the population and the united members of the New Popular Front must be as strong as possible throughout the department. We therefore propose to all components of the New Popular Front to join the campaign committee”.
