At home, Mother Nature is queen. Tired of city life, Giovanni Philippe chose, in 2013, to settle in Chasseneuil, where he found the green setting of his dreams. One hectare of land, which he divided into several spaces: in addition to a natural pond in which you can observe frogs, salamanders and other newts, he created a permaculture vegetable garden, a traditional vegetable garden, a henhouse, a country hedge. He also bought a meadow where he hopes to soon see two ponies grazing. “retirees”.

No so-called “undesirable” species

Here there is no so-called species “undesirable”. “I maintain at a minimum, both out of laziness and out of constraint”, smiles this employee in the environment department of the Territorial Directorate. Grass grows freely along the edges of hedges and vegetable gardens, and nettles, “refuges for around twenty species of insects”, have a good life. Just like the birds and owls, who benefit from around ten nest boxes installed by him, and the bees, who have their hive. Even the two dead plum trees in his orchard are left behind to become natural insect hotels! Natural gardening practices – differentiated mowing, vegetable combinations, mulching, rainwater recovery, composting, etc. – help maintain the wild character of the site.

This cocoon of greenery, he had chosen to discover, this Saturday, June 15, 2024, as part of the Welcome to my natural garden operation, organized by the Permanent Center for Environmental Initiatives (CPIE) Brenne- Berry. But he will be happy to share it with all the curious and nature enthusiasts passing through.
