Nicole Arseneau-Sluyter becomes president of the SANB

Nicole Arseneau-Sluyter was elected president of the Société nationale de l’Acadie (SANB) during the organization’s 51st annual general meeting in Miramichi on Saturday.

Ms. Arseneau-Sluyter has held the interim presidency since the resignation of Alexandre Cédric Doucet in August 2023.

According to SANB800 members voted to choose the next person who will lead the Acadian organization.

The SANB announced during its annual general meeting in Miramichi on Saturday that the members of the organization preferred the candidacy of Nicole Arseneau-Sluyter to that of Éric Dow and Luc Desjardins.

Nicole Arseneau-Slutyer won 365 votes to 275 for her closest rival Luc Desjardins.

The organization’s former communications manager, Éric Dow, finished in third position with 160 votes.

Among the members who voted, 768 people voted electronically.

According to the organization, 3% of SANB members made their voices heard during this election.

According to the newly elected president, her priority during this two-year mandate will be to complete the general meeting in order to take stock of the situation in Acadia, a way of seeing where Acadian society is and where it wishes to go. .

While he affirms that the organization will be in good hands with Nicole Arseneau-Sluyter at the helm, Joey Couturier hopes that the SANB will make more room for young people.

A new board of directors

The SANB also elected a new board of directors on Saturday.

Richard Louis and Jovial Orlachi Osundy were designated as provincial representatives while Alexandra LeBreton was elected as representative of the Southeast. Mathieu Perron, Antoine David, Maxime Brideau and Joey Couturier respectively joined the board of directors as representatives of the North, Miramichi, the Acadian Peninsula and the North-West.
