From the cellar to the attic, in the corridors as in the boudoir, certainly in the living room of one or the other apartment, and then in the street on the asphalt, the Baz’Art festival returns to make its own. It was in Lissignol, thanks to its wild inhabitants, that the strangest Genevan event ever saw the light of day twelve editions ago. It is in this corner of the neighborhood on the edge of Saint-Gervais that the fine team is taking the matter in hand this weekend, after having been “on pause” in 2023. In 2024 therefore, Baz’Art wakes up with a hell of a catch. To admire the beast, go Saturday June 15 and Sunday June 16, every day from 2 p.m. and until late in the evening. Free admission.

As usual, the program came out at the last minute. As usual, it was worth the wait. A new grand cru is looming on the horizon. The theme? Tradition and folklore revisited. Baz’Art, who cultivates the extraordinary, also takes care of his humor, asking questions such as: “Le ranz des vaches” by a Geneva choir, is this cultural reappropriation or not?

Concerts, performances, visual arts, installations, workshops and participatory curiosities: among the twenty creations to follow this weekend, we have chosen – in a completely subjective way and because we like the titles of the shows – “The heritage of stories that only half exist”, a guided tour by the actresses Lisa Courvallet and Candice Chauvin (Saturday, 3 p.m., Sunday, 4:30 p.m.), also this “traditional Breton song arranged with the sauce of ‘oyster’ by Ludu Du, duo formed by Anna Duval Guennoc and Ivan Martin (Saturday, 6 p.m.).

There are even stars at Baz’Art, musical ones for example. Let us cite La Tène (Saturday, 8 p.m.), a Franco-Swiss group specializing in the hair-raising mixing of hurdy-gurdy revisited with industrial rock drums, all with cabrette and other shivering bagpipes. We are delighted to find Alexis Degrenier on stage, a veteran old man and co-founder of this ensemble with variable configuration.

We are also looking forward to taking a nap in “The final hut”, an “ephemeral, broc’n brol and protean shelter” designed by Ginkopop (Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m.). We are also very, very curious to discover what is hidden in the belly of the monster, a spinning sculpture imagined by Chingo & Elodie (Saturday and Sunday, on call). Here is what their invitation says: “Sometimes, we felt good there, nestled in the warm, humid and soft cavern. Sometimes it felt bad, chewed up, spit out, digested and shitted.” Baz’Art strikes again!
