Haute-Corse will be placed on orange “rain-flood” alert on Saturday afternoon, Météo-France announces in its latest bulletin, published Saturday November 9. This orange alert, accompanied by a yellow alert for thunderstorms, will be in effect from 3 p.m. until Sunday morning.
Rains “temporarily strong and stormy” are expected on the eastern coast of Corsica, mainly in Haute-Corse, announces Météo-France, which specifies that “the intensities could be around 30 millimeters to 50 millimeters (mm) per hour in places, and the accumulations could approach 80 mm to 120 mm in three to six hours”. For the entire episode, the accumulations “are likely to occasionally reach 150 mm, or even a little more”.
Five other departments in the south of France – Bouches-du-Rhône, Corse-du-Sud, Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Var – are on yellow thunderstorm alert.
A little earlier, on Saturday, Météo-France had downgraded Hérault to yellow vigilance, the last department affected by an episode of strong storms accompanied by showers which affected the Gulf of Lion. Neighboring Aude, for its part, was downgraded to yellow vigilance around midnight.
According to the Météo-France press release, published shortly after 6 a.m., 80 mm to 100 mm of precipitation could be observed in a very localized manner in Hérault, on the coast between Agde and Sète, during this episode of strong thunderstorms.
