The call is launched by the City of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines): residents are invited to propose their 2024 Golden Sun. Every yearat the time of wishes to the population, the mayor of the commune puts some of his constituents in the spotlight by awarding them this reward.
This distinction rewards Saint-Germanois demonstrating “of solidarity » and mobilizing in an “exceptional and voluntary way for others”.
Until November 16 to participate
This year again, the municipality is giving the possibility for residents to propose the name of a person they would like to see honored.
To participate, simply submit your proposal, before November 16, 2024, in one of the ballot boxes available at the town hall, at the administrative center, at the delegated town hall of Fourqueux or at the Pierre-Delanoë space. It is also possible to do this via a online formoffered on the city's website.
The City sets criteria
Before submitting a name it must be kept in mind that, as the municipality specifies, the candidate must meet certain criteria.
“Their altruism, which can be expressed through an association or actions, must be exercised for several years and serve the influence of the city. All areas are concerned: education, culture, economic development, solidarity, sport…”
The people of Saint-German, selected by a jury, will receive their Golden Sun from the hands of Mayor Arnaud Péricard during the vows ceremony scheduled for Saturday January 18, 2025.
A prize created in 1988 by Péricard père
It is to his father, Michel Péricard, then also mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, that we owe the establishment of this distinction in 1988. It aimed, at the time, to highlight honor of the Saint-Germanois having particularly distinguished themselves in the volunteeringin the municipality.
Initially, the number of Golden Suns was set at ten, to which was added another chosen by the mayor himself. But, over the years, many people having been rewarded and the number of volunteers not being renewed very quickly, it was decided to reduce their number .
The latter has tended to rise somewhat in recent years. Since its creation, these are 285 Golden Sunswhich were awarded individually.
Confidential during Covid
The Golden Suns were put on hold during the Covid crisis. The wishes to the population having been canceled during this period, the distinctions were, two years in a rowpresented at the end of the annual general meeting of the Soleils d'Or association of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, making this spotlight more confidential.
An association has been watching over the Golden Suns since 1999
Created in 1999, this association's role is, among other things, to ensure the reputation of the Order of the Golden Suns, to ensure a link between the medalists but also to maintain the spirit of volunteering in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and to support its members while also being a support for other associations in the municipality.
“We offer our support. We don't want to do something in place of an association, but to lend a helping hand. »
Whose turn is it?
The structure was also required to organize a social action during one of the outings that it organizes for its members.
Its representatives also participate, with elected officials and Mayor Arnaud Péricard, in the jurywho will have the task of remembering the names of the Saint-Germanois who will be awarded the distinction, among all those proposed by the inhabitants.
The ballot boxes are located at the town hall (16, rue de Pontoise), at the administrative center (86, rue Léon-Désoyer), at the delegated town hall of Fourqueux (1, place de la Grille) and at the Espace Pierre -Delanoë (2, place Victor-Hugo).
