Legislative elections 2024: “This popular front is a dishonor for France”, criticizes the mayor of Nîmes

The elected official of the largest city in France held by the Republicans does not mince his words after the agreement reached this Thursday, June 13 in the ranks of the left.

“While the Republican right clarifies its positions in extreme pain, the left, completely ashamed, takes the opposite path. The days of Gambetta, Jaurès and Blum are long gone…” Let’s say it clearly, the mayor of Nîmes Jean-Paul Fournier has very little taste for the agreement reached by the left this Thursday, June 13.

A “pact with the LFI madmen”

“From now on, the new popular front makes a pact with the rabid LFI and the Trotskyists of the NPA”, thus believes the elected representative of the Republicans, who believes that this union of the left “is done for the benefit of the rebels and in contempt of the results of the European elections”.

And the mayor of the largest city in France still held by the Republicans to attack “this left so quick to give lessons”, who, in his eyes, “is now dogged by extremists, among whom frog, shamelessly, without scruple, without any restraint: anti-Semitism, populism, hatred, demagoguery, aggressiveness, communitarianism, anti-parliamentarism and a form of benevolence towards Islamism and Hamas.

“The left is no longer republican”

The mayor of Nîmes, recalling that this year is also that of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of France, accuses the left of “denying the lessons of the Second World War” and shoot “a line on the legacy of the National Council of Resistance”. Jean-Paul Fournier concluding with very strong words against the party: “The left is no longer republican. How sad! I can only denounce this circumstantial compromise. This popular front is a dishonor for France, it will, without a doubt, be a political and electoral failure”, predicts the former senator from Gard.
