The emergency services found themselves faced with a complicated situation to manage this Friday, November 8. The mayor of Écoyeux (Charente-Maritime), a town located between Foncouverte and Saint-Hilaire de Villefranche, asked them to come to a man suffering from psychological disorders and to intern him in a specialized care center. Obviously very angry, the fifty-year-old was waiting for them on site with an axe.
He has waved his weapon in front of the emergency services, before ensuring that he was going to set fire to his house.
The surveillance and intervention platoons from Saint-Jean d'Angély and Rochefort had to intervene, called in as reinforcements by the care services who initially came to look for him. An impressive presence of law enforcement, according to some residents who were concerned to see the armed and helmeted gendarmes.
In view of the situation, assault columns were ready to put the man out of harm's way. Fortunately, the situation quickly calmed down, and they were finally able to very easily convince the man to surrender. He was arrested by the police.
