Call – To change the path of Senegal: MP Abass Fall calls for tax citizenship – Lequotidien

The deputy for Yewwi askan wi (Yaw) and member of the Pastef party, Abass Fall, speaks of tax citizenship, to which he asks all Senegalese to subscribe in order to bring about the changes to which they aspire.

By Amadou MBODJI – Faced with the reality of power, the new regime ends up being aware that the changes to which the Senegalese aspire will only be made possible with the contribution of everyone. This is the analysis that we could make of the speech by Abass Fall, deputy for Yewwi askan wi and member of the Pastef party. Highlighting the government’s political will to initiate a first stage of lowering the prices of consumer goods and facilitating access to housing, the MP focuses on the importance of tax morale. Thus calling on all Senegalese to contribute equitably to the payment of taxes, traditionally borne by the most deprived.

“Tax citizenship will be set in motion. All Senegalese will pay taxes which were always supported by the poor. The state’s lifestyle will drop drastically and these savings will be used to reduce the cost of living,” declared Abass Fall in a post published on his Facebook page. Mr. Fall speaks of a national surge in order to provide relief to vulnerable households, sending a message to the most socially well-off.

“We are no longer subsidizing the rich, energy costs will be reviewed and the State will take steps to ensure that these measures are respected. We need a national surge to support the State of Senegal in its efforts to support households, especially vulnerable ones,” he says.

This is how he invites Senegalese businessmen to invest in sectors such as agriculture, fishing and livestock. Sectors with strong economic potential, underlines the MP for Pastef, who adds that these sectors will serve as the basis “for our economic model”.

On this occasion, he appeals to economic patriotism: “we must all do our part to produce what we consume. Economic diplomacy will be put in motion for greater involvement of the State in controlling the costs of goods,” continues Mr. Fall. A position in line with the decision of the new regime to put all Senegalese companies on the same footing by making them pay tax. The Ministry of Finance and Budget of Senegal announced yesterday the implementation of a decree under article 355 bis of Law No. 2012-31 of December 31, 2012 as amended relating to the General Tax Code (Cgi). This decree defines the terms of application of the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime to the provision of digital services and commissions received by non-resident online suppliers, as well as by operators of foreign digital platforms without professional installations in Senegal. .

From July 1, 2024, Senegal will begin to apply this VAT on digital activities. This initiative by the Ministry of Finance and Budget aims to broaden the tax base and strengthen the mobilization of internal resources to finance public policies, informs the Aps.
