France's trade deficit widened to 8.1 billion euros in September, due to an increase in imports while exports recorded a decrease, according to French Customs statistics made public on Friday.
Imports increased by 500 million euros while exports decreased by 200 million euros, standing at 57 billion euros and 48.9 billion euros respectively, indicate French Customs in a press release. by local media.
The trade deficit thus increases for the second consecutive month, after reaching 6.7 billion euros in July and 7.4 billion euros in August, according to revised figures, published Friday.
According to Le Figaro, the French trade balance deficit has been on a downward trend in recent months, after having recorded historic records over the whole of 2022 and 2023.
France's cumulative deficit stood at 82.4 billion euros over 12 months.
Thus, France's energy balance deteriorated in September by 100 million euros to stand at 4.5 billion euros, a decline which can be explained by a slight increase in imports while exports are stable, details the press release.
The deterioration of the balance excluding energy continued, at 5.2 billion euros, compared to 4.6 billion euros the previous month.
The current account deficit stood at 2.1 billion euros in September, after a deficit of 1.2 billion euros in August, according to data from the Banque de France.
