The inhabitants of Pas-de-Calais lost a lot a year ago in historic floods. Even today, reconstruction is difficult, as in Saint-Léonard, where the SIB printing works is threatened by the elimination of 60 jobs.
The printing press is frozen, nothing has changed for almost a year. Dust-covered machines have been out of service since last winter's floods. Even the flyers being printed are still there. Since the flood, three out of six presses are still out of use. One of them is permanently damaged, and to repair it, it would take three to four million euros, according to the director of the printing house. Too large a sum despite insurance compensation.
Last November, the industrial zone in which the printing works was located was submerged by water. Nearly a meter of water could be observed in places. The company, already weakened by the reduction in paper prospectuses, suffered the final blow with the floods. Today, management says it is cornered and has decided to lay off 60 people out of 130.
