“He left his DNA everywhere”: in Essonne, four years in prison required for a serial burglar

On a door handle, a window, a drawer or even on a door cylinder… the serial burglar left his DNA on almost everything he touched. For break-ins committed in Essonne in Saint-Germain-lès-Arpajon, La Norville, Brétigny-sur-Orge and Longpont-sur-Orge between March 2023 and last September, the 23-year-old young man, from the community of travelers, appeared this Friday before the Évry-Courcouronnes criminal court.

The prosecutor requested a four-year prison sentence and the total revocation of the suspended sentence that hung over his head. The deliberation is expected in the evening.

“He left his DNA everywhere,” whispers a source close to the case. And last March 14, it was undoubtedly one burglary too many. That day, a home in Brétigny-sur-Orge was searched from top to bottom. Jewelry was stolen but also a television, a hard drive and a handbag were stolen. During this burglary, excrement was discovered in the living room. If the perpetrator(s) are first singled out, the rest of the investigations will show that they were “those of the family dog”, asserts the defendant's lawyer. The public prosecutor remains more doubtful. “The origin of this excrement remains undetermined,” he slips aside.

In this house left upside down, the police take various samples and send them for analysis. Their intuition is good: DNA found on site corresponds to a name known to their services and matches several ongoing procedures. In total, ten break-ins and one attempt are attributed to him for damage of around 35,000 euros.

Arrested this Thursday, the young suspect admitted all the facts with which he was accused. “I was addicted to drugs,” he slips in court to justify the thefts. I had to buy my fix of crack. Today I stopped. These are mistakes, I would like to compensate the victims. » Compensation which already promises to be complicated, the young person already being burdened with a debt which exceeds 200,000 euros.
