The mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre HURMIC, displayed two banners on November 4, 2024 denouncing the budgetary guidelines announced by the Government on the facade of Bordeaux City Hall. The prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, prefect of Gironde, Étienne GUYOT sent a letter to the mayor of Bordeaux on November 6, 2024 to remind him of the legislation in force relating to the neutrality of public services.
Indeed, the Council of State, in its judgment “Commune of Sainte-Anne” of July 27, 2005, clearly indicates that “the principle of neutrality of public services precludes the affixing of signs on public buildings symbolizing the assertion of political, religious or philosophical opinions”. This principle has constitutional value.
In view of these elements, the prefect of Gironde invites the mayor of Bordeaux to comply as quickly as possible with the law, failing which, legal action would be taken by the State.
