It was on November 11, 1918 that the armistice was signed which ended the First World War. The talks lasted several days on a train, in a former disused railway sorting spur not far from Rethondes station, in Oise. Negotiations do not really take place and the allies of the Triple Entente impose their conditions on Germany.

The armistice of November 11 did not really mark the end of the war but it stopped the deadly fighting. It was the signing of the Treaty of , in June of the following year, which definitively ratified this act. But the clauses deemed humiliating by the losing side will plunge Europe into the dawn of an equally monstrous conflict a few decades later.

Have a nice weekend!
