Less than a year ago, they blocked the highways. This demonstration sounds like a warning.
Ten months after the blockades which shook our territories, the discontent of farmers resumes in Haute-Savoie. The movement aims to be pacifist this Friday evening in front of the Prefecture, but it is a warning.
Tractors in front of the Prefecture of Haute-Savoie
This Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., a first action will be carried out in front of the prefecture in Annecy, at the initiative of the Haute-Savoie Rural Coordination. Tractors and around fifty farmers are expected for a symbolic barbecue.
Free trade agreements in the viewfinder
The objective of this mobilization? Protest against the imminent signing of a trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. Mercosur designates the common market of South America with an area of free movement of goods and services between five countries: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia. This agreement is considered unfair competition for French producers. According to the FDSEA, it would allow the import of 99,000 tonnes of beef, 180,000 tonnes of poultry, the equivalent of 3.4 million tonnes of corn and even 180,000 tonnes of sugar.
A warning before further actions
The agricultural union Rural Coordination had already been at the origin of the blocking of the Allonzier-la-Caille toll last January. He describes this Friday's action as a “warning” and a “pacifist” movement. Other mobilizations are expected throughout France in the coming days.
