According to our colleagues atActu.frthe announcement of the reinstatement of the speed limit of 90 km/h in the Eure department provoked the anger of the association. This denounces a rash decision going against global warming.
It will therefore be a new department which will raise the speed after having lowered it under the directives of the government of Edouard Philippe. A step backwards particularly badly experienced by associations in favor of soft mobility and public transport.
A measure perceived as obscurantist by its detractors
Sustainability advocates and road safety advocates are against the move. However, the president of the department maintains that the reduction in speed has not particularly reduced accidents on the territory's roads as much as was hoped. Conversely, a recent study shows that road deaths have increased by more than ten percent in the departments that have reestablished 90 km/h.
Also, the leaders of the association intend to turn to elected environmentalists in order to counter this new measure. The system should be officially validated during the month of February.
