Faced with digital harassment, the Occitanie Region will experiment with an application: SafeBear. This will make it possible to identify and store all hateful content to facilitate legal proceedings for victims, explains “Actu Lot”.
The Louis Vicat high school in Souillac (Lot) is one of 13 establishments in Occitanie chosen to test SafeBear, an application against cyberharassment. “Faced with this contemporary scourge (…), it is our responsibility to protect students and support parents,” said Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie Region. Indeed, supported by the region, this one-year experiment includes 1,000 licenses financed for a total cost of 40,000 euros, reports news Lot.
A “digital safe”
How does it work? The application, designed by a French start-up in 2022, identifies and archives hateful content received on social networks such as Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter) and Snapchat. The hateful messages are then saved in a sort of digital safe, to allow victims to have certified evidence in the context of a complaint, for example.

Each user can also choose to indicate the name of relatives to alert in the event of harassment. Use of this application will be voluntary. This system has been praised by associations such as the ACDH du Lot (Association Against Discrimination and Harassment). Kilian Vaysse, its president, however, wished to “remain vigilant” as to the real impact of this initiative.
