The 2024 edition of the sound and light show was unveiled this Monday, July 1st on the facades of the Madeleine church. A 20-minute journey through the history of the city of Béziers is now visible for free every evening until August 31st.

From the Place de la Madeleine to the terraces of the adjacent cafés and restaurants, many pairs of eyes were fixed on the Church of the Madeleine this Monday evening. The premiere of the 2024 edition of the sound and light show, “A Dream of Freedom” brought together several hundred spectators, young and old, seated or standing. For 20 minutes, they were invited to a journey through time paying tribute to the history and heritage of Béziers. Everything is covered, from the founding of the city 2,700 years ago to the exploits of its rugby team and its feria, including the resistance embodied by the figure of Jean Moulin who is spread out, immense, on the stones of the historic building.

Place de la Madeleine like a time machine

The teams from the town hall and the technicians from the Montpellier company ID Scènes have been working for three months on the show that brings to life and magnifies the three facades of the church, but not only that. At the foot of the building, a structure projecting lights and flames “symbolizes a time machine,” explains Marina Garnier, artistic director of the show for ID Scènes. Smoke and spotlights also enhance the moment.

The show is free and takes place every evening until August 31, the first time at 10:30 p.m. and again at 11 p.m. The square has an underground car park.
