REPORTAGE – Thanks to preventive excavations before a social housing construction site, archaeologists have uncovered a mysterious site dating from the Neolithic period in the town of Veynes. The place will nevertheless have to be covered by social housing.

Dozens of steles more than a meter high are mysteriously erected. For the first time in several millennia, they discover the light of the sun. Behind them, the imposing mountains of the Hautes-Alpes seem to contemplate the archaeologists who, for a few more days, dig the earth in search of an answer that they will perhaps never have: why, almost 6000 years ago , men and women struggled to transport these blocks, some of which weigh several tons, over several kilometers for such a spectacular display?

We must admit that the place has something magical, mystical. Nestled in the hollow of the peaks, this small plateau on which the town of Veynes is located, at an altitude of 800 meters, has a relaxing side.
