A new state representative will soon take office in this department of . This Wednesday, November 6, the Council of Ministers appointed Gilles Quénéhervé, born in 1966 in , prefect of Lozère. Former athlete and sub-prefect of , he will soon succeed Philippe Castanet. The latter has been in office since April 4, 2022.

Who is Gilles Quénéhervé new prefect of Lozère?

Gilles Quénéhervé, newly appointed prefect of Lozère, first enjoyed a remarkable sporting career before reorienting himself towards public administration. A specialist in the 200 meters, he was world vice-champion in 1987 and Olympic bronze medalist in relay at the 1988 Seoul Games.. After ending his athletic career in 2001, he joined the National School of Administration (ENA), where he distinguished himself as the first Olympic medalist to join this institution. Upon leaving ENA, Gilles Quénéhervé held several positions within the administration.

He also headed the office of the prefect of Côtes-d'Armor from July 2013 to August 2015. He was then sub-prefect in Morlaix and secretary general of the Lot prefecture. In 2018, he was appointed director of sports at the Ministry of Sports, a key position for the development of sport in .. Then, his career took him to Le Havre, where he was appointed sub-prefect in 2022. A position that he is now leaving to soon join the prefecture of Lozère. Although no date has yet been announced, the new prefect should take office soon.
