The firefighters plan to go in procession to the police station.
The Rhône firefighters, always fighting for better working conditions, are once again making headlines. Two professional firefighters (SPP) from the Rhône are expected this Thursday, November 7 at 1 p.m. at the police station on rue Saint-Jacques, in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon (3/6), to be interviewed. This summons follows a complaint filed by the president of the Métropole de Lyon as well as by agents of the Métropole after a union action which took place on October 1.
In a press release, the inter-union of SDMIS (departmental-metropolitan fire and rescue service) expresses its serious concern about this summons, indicating: “The charges are serious. Custody coming?” Firefighters mention accusations of “intentional violence against security agents and damage to public property” against these two firefighters. “Will our colleagues be heard in a free hearing? Or will they be placed in police custody? Everything is possible, everything is to be feared!”, asks the inter-union.
“They accuse ONE, they accuse us ALL!, states the press release. It is inconceivable not to be present in large numbers to support our two colleagues-friends-firefighters who have been summoned.” Faced with this situation, they are calling for a rally of support in front of the police station, inviting colleagues and supporters to mobilize from 12 p.m. at the SDMIS for a departure in a procession towards the police station. Lawyers for the two firefighters will be present during the hearing.
