Twelve new postmen and women from Haute-Loire were sworn in on Tuesday, November 5 in the salons of the Puy-en-Velay prefecture during a solemn ceremony.
“When a postal worker takes an oath, the entire Post Office gives its word. » These 7 postmen and 5 postmen depend on the sites of Puy-en-Velay, Yssingeaux, Vorey-sur-Arzon, Saint-Paulien, Arvant, Brioude, Sainte-Sigolène and Monistrol-sur- Loire. By taking the oath, they officially committed to respecting the ethics and professional conduct of La Poste and to fulfilling their role “with conscience, honesty and probity”.
Respect the secrecy of correspondence
After reading the official document, the 12 postal workers took the oath each in turn. By this act, they have thus undertaken to respect in particular “the integrity of objects deposited by customers, the inviolability and secrecy of correspondence, including electronic ones, and of information of which they become aware in the provision of their service “. Finally, the text also specifies that the postal worker must report any infraction to the line manager.
“La Poste is the only company that can boast such commitment from its employees,” indicates the company.
Taking the oath is the foundation of the professional commitment of postal workers and the keystone of the trust that customers place in La Poste. It concerns all La Poste staff whatever their function and level of function and whatever their quality (civil servant/employee). It also concerns staff hired on fixed-term contracts.
Since 1790
At La Poste, it takes on a particular dimension since article II of the law of August 29, 1790 already gave, under the French Revolution, a legal translation to the taking of a professional oath. The article in question stipulated that “Post Office Administrators and Employees take an oath to keep and faithfully observe the faith due to the secrecy of letters and to denounce to the courts which will be indicated all the contraventions which could take place and which would come to their knowledge “.
