A young girl's throat was slit and thrown into the Meuse: the Red Cross center where she lived in shock

LThe teams and residents of the Yvoir Red Cross center are in shock following the murder of Hagos, 22, which occurred Monday evening on the banks of the Meuse in Yvoir, indicates the Red Cross. The young Eritrean woman was stabbed several times in the throat by her companion.

Psychological support teams have been deployed to assist the teams and residents of the centers concerned.

The Red Cross also confirms that the victim arrived at the “Pierre Bleue” reception center for asylum seekers in Yvoir with her partner in April 2024 and that the couple separated some time later. Since September, the man had left this center and was living in another reception center, outside the Red Cross network. Information confirmed by the Secretary of State for Asylum, Nicole de Moor, questioned on this subject in the House committee.

The suspect was arrested immediately after the incident and was placed under arrest, charged with murder.

The Red Cross also specifies that the “Pierre Bleue” reception center in Yvoir has developed specific approaches to help the most vulnerable people who have suffered gender-based violence in their country of origin, on the journey of exile or in Belgium: sexual exploitation, forced marriage, excision or even restrictions linked to their status as women (training, employment, etc.).
