To save a few euros in tolls while only losing a few minutes on their journey, many motorists linking Arles to Montpellier leave the N113, the A9 or the A54 to take the Camargue road. The landscapes are magnificent, there are always birds or flamingos to observe and above all there are much fewer people than on the highway. Obligatory passage: the Sylvéréal Bridgemarking the limit between Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard. This is under construction for a very long time, until summer 2025.
Already closed for the first time on October 30, it will be closed again several times in the coming weeks and months:
- Thursday, November 21 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- From December 2 to 20, 2024 24 hours a day
- From March 3 to 21, 2025 24 hours a day
- From April 7 to 28, 2025 24 hours a day
- From July 3 to 24, 2025 24 hours a day.
The rest of the time, the construction site takes place under traffic alternating with lights, inevitably causing a few minutes of waiting.
A diversion route
This closure has serious consequences on the daily lives of local residents and the journeys of motorists. A diversion is in place. For those who usually make the journey between Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Aigues-Mortes in 30 minutes, it will be doubled to one hour, going up by Albaron, Saliers, Saint-Gilles, Vauvert and Aimargues. For those who are used to taking the Pont de Sylvéréal for their journey between Arles and Montpellier, you will therefore have to go through Saint-Gilles. The deviation is also valid in the other direction.
Work also on the D570 in Arles
This work is in addition to that undertaken by the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône on the D570, closed 24 hours a day until December 20, 2024 in both directions between Albaron and the Salin-de-Giraud road. This is the main road between Arles and Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
To reach the two cities, you have to take another route. Coming from Marseille or Aix, instead of leaving the N113 after the Pont du Rhône in Arles, you must continue on the expressway and exit a little before the Arles toll, following the green “Montpellier” and white “Saint -Gilles Vauvert”, then turn left at Saliers taking the Albaron road (same thing in the other direction). Another route is possible along the Etang de Vaccarès.
