Located on Souffleur beach, in Port-Louis, the Kabana Beach restaurant was partially destroyed by a fire on Tuesday, November 5.

Firefighters are currently responding to a fire that is ravaging the premises of the Kabana Beach restaurant, located on Souffleur beach in Port-Louis, this Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The alert was given at 9:05 p.m.

Initially, the SDIS reported a “widespread fire” of the establishment well known and appreciated by Guadeloupeans.
According to teams on the ground, the fire was located in the kitchen area and the intermediate area leading to the room. The spread was stopped, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service said in the evening. However, the cooking facilities were destroyed.

No casualties have been reported.

The images captured by passers-by are impressive.

Kabana Beach has regularly made the news in recent months due to a conflict between its owner and the municipality of Port-Louis.

The restaurant, located in the 50 geometric steps zone, on a protected natural coastal area, has been operating without authorization and without a building permit for several years. The manager refused the proposals made by the Town Hall to move his business outside the protected coastal zone.

The busy establishment was to be destroyed last April, but the many supporters of the owner, Nicolas Semar, present on site, had dissuaded the State services from going through with it.
