Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome has said he dreams of taking part in the world's greatest Cycling race one last time before calling time on his illustrious career. The British rider, who will turn 40 next year, has only one year left on his contract with the Israel-Premier Tech team. “It’s not crazy to think that I can come back to the Tour”declared the winner of the 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 editions, in an interview with the Spanish daily Marca published Tuesday, November 5.

“I always dream of it. I don't know yet what my program will be for next year. We will see it in the next training camp in 2025. But my challenge is to try to run in a big race again”he continued.
Struggling since a fall on the Dauphiné
Chris Froome, also winner of the Vuelta twice (2011 and 2017) and the Giro (2018), has not returned to his best level since his serious injury suffered during a terrible high-speed fall before a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2019.
“I have never been as strong in training as before my fall in Dauphiné. That's life. I thought the 2019 Tour was the one that really got away from me”he declared. “I have to be honest and realize that I may no longer have the same challenges as before this fall, but I still love cycling. »
If Chris Froome was once the king of the peloton, the landscape is now dominated by the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who have shared the last five editions of the Tour de France.
The Briton describes Tadej Pogacar as a phenomenon after this 2024 season which notably saw him win the Giro, his third Tour de France and become world champion.
“I think Pogacar, after winning two grand tours and several other races (This year), is the best runner of the year and of the century. »
