Sacred Burlesque: inclusion and body positivity in

The Sacré Burlesque festival begins in , supported by an association that values inclusion and body positivity. On the program: shows and workshops open to all to discover a liberating and taboo-free art.

The Sacré Burlesque association, based in Reims, is organizing its eponymous festival which begins this Thursday 7 and runs until Sunday November 10, 2024. This unique event in the region advocates inclusion and self-acceptance through burlesque , a living art that combines dance, comedy, and personal expression. Founded on the concept of “body positive”, the association values all bodies and encourages everyone to flourish on stage, regardless of age, gender or body shape.

Burlesque, an inclusive and liberating art of expression

Dotty and Eva, members of the association, explain that burlesque offers a platform of expression for everyone, without judgment. Burlesque, often associated with “striptease”, uses humor, emotion or glamor to gently reveal the body. It is not just a spectacle, but an invitation to free oneself from aesthetic norms. Through varied performances, the artists approach the stage with their personal style and integrate messages, emotions and demands.

Accessible and therapeutic burlesque classes

The association offers burlesque classes open to all, men and women, with no level prerequisites. These classes include techniques for handling props like feather fans, choreography, theatrical expression exercises and even an introduction to the history of burlesque. Students work together to overcome their fears, gain confidence and create unique acts. This practice, sometimes experienced as a form of therapy, helps you develop better self-esteem and explore a new facet of your body.

Dynamic programming for a varied audience

In addition to the Sacré Burlesque Festival, the association organizes regular events, such as the “Cabaret Libre” every two months, allowing amateurs and initiates to perform on stage. The festival and these performances take place in cultural places in Reims such as the Petite Halle and the Chemin Vert theater, attracting an audience curious to discover this atypical art.
