Clearly, things are moving in terms of work in Millau, in the south of Aveyron ! If the Sablons district is set to become a green lung of the municipalityother places are also affected by large-scale developments in the city center.
Thus, from Monday, November 4, road repair work will begin on Ayrolle Boulevardfor one month, with the installation of a noise-proof covering. This step comes after a first phase of replacement of drinking water pipes, at the beginning of 2024.
In parallel, Liberty Street has a new look with more space given to pedestrians and a secure forecourt for the Jules-Ferry school. With these two projects, the City intends to offer these residents, passers-by and traders, a more pleasant living environment.
Occitanie News made on these two sites in detail. With its consequences on traffic and transport…
A sound coating on Boulevard de l'Ayrolle
In a few weeks, thee boulevard de l'Ayrolle will be much more pleasant for local residents, pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. The roadway on this heavily used route is damaged.
“Natural” wear, since the last work dates back to 1996 on the lower part and 2014 on the upper part. But also “premature” wear, following the repair work on all the water pipes, carried out at the start of the year.
Its overhaul will therefore be initiated, from November 4 to 28, 2024between Place Bompaire and Rue de la Liberté with the reinforcement of the roadway and the repair of the wearing course. A soundproof, noise-reducing coating, adapted to the reality of traffic, will reduce vehicle noise and halve the perception of noise.
At the Saint-Martin crossing, a crossing platform will also be installed to encourage people to drive more slowly and fit more easily into the traffic on the boulevard.
This is an in-depth renovation since the Sévigné company will plan the roadway to 18 cm before reconstituting a hot mix. This project is intended to be an investment for the future: in 15 or 20 years, it will be enough to “rebuild only the wearing course”, welcomes the municipality in a press release. The cost of the operation is from 260 000 euros.
The project was presented to local residents on Thursday October 24:
It’s a real community effort, but it’s an investment for the future. Improving the living environment of residents is the priority, also including securing water resources and sharing the road more harmoniously to live better together.
Work schedule revealed
The work will be carried out in two slices, from November 4 to 28:
- From Place Bompaire, to Gap Saint-Martin;
- From the Saint-Martin hole, to the rue de la Liberté.
The third phasefrom the boulevard (at the court level) to Mandarous, is scheduled for mid-January 2025.
In order to ensure the safety of users throughout the duration of the work, the entire boulevard will be closed to trafficfrom 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A detour will be put in place for users. Parking will be prohibited day and night.
Please note that the sidewalks remain free. Furthermore, all specific constraints of local residents are studied on a case-by-case basis. They must contact the City’s technical services.
Deviations from the Mio boulevard de l'Ayrolle bus network
On the transport side, during the work period, the stops on the boulevard and those nearby will not be served, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday to Friday (with the exception of Tuesday, November 12), and from 9 a.m. at 5:30 p.m., Mondays and Tuesday, November 12.
Only Mio network busesand only them, will be authorized to circulate until 9 a.m. on Mondays in November and Tuesday, November 12, the day after a public holiday.

Renovation of rue de la Liberté
The other current hot spot in terms of work in Millau concerns rue de la Liberté and the development of the Jules-Ferry school square.
Since October 21, repair work and recalibration of the sidewalk on Rue de la Liberté are undertaken. This work is carried out under direct management by the technical services of the City of Millau, to a cost of 50,000 euros. They should last five weeks, until November 25, 2024.
This project aims to improve security et pedestrian accessibilityparticularly schoolchildren and their families, while beautifying public spaces.
Consequently, traffic will be prohibited between Boulevard de l'Ayrolle and Rue de la Pépinière, but pedestrian access will be maintained, guaranteeing continuity of travel for residents and users.
