A week after being put in the water, the longship of Vendée has been officially baptizedthis Saturday, November 2, 2024.
The baptism was celebrated by Monsignor Jacolin, bishop of the Diocese of Luçonin the presence of many elected officials, unexpected supporters like Philippe Jeantot, and all the volunteers who worked on the project.
“May all those on board benefit from your protection and reach the desired port. Be a sign of happiness for those who come across you. »
The crowd also gathered in Port-Olona to participate in the baptism. They were more than fifty, at the edge of the quaysto observe this authentic replica of a longship, whose mast was raised that very morning.
” It is a unifying project. There will always be room for rowers,” joked the president of the association, Philippe Renaudet, moved and “happy” in front of “the fruit of hard work.
The mayor of Île-d'Olonne, Fabrice Chabot, praised “a true human adventure”who supported his town for three years. Yannick Moreau, mayor of Sables-d'Olonne, highlighted a project where “audacity, intuition, and organization” were required.
Finishing work is now continuing on the longship, with the aim of seeing it sailing on the water at the same time as the start of the Vendée Globe…
