A final tribute in music. The funeral of Paul Varry, the cyclist killed by a motorist in Paris, took place this Saturday, November 2 in his village in Hautes-Alpes. Several hundred people gathered for the occasion around the marquee that Paul Varry's relatives had set up on a meadow in La Faurie.
His family, his friends, former classmates but also ordinary residents affected by this tragedy gathered for a last goodbye.
“I know the whole family, and I knew Paul since I was little. It’s a lot of pain,” declares Ghislaine, a close relative of the family, speaking to BFM DICI.
Sadness and anger
This farewell to the village child was done in music, with the presence of a brass band. Despite this, many gathered in silence, sometimes choking back sobs.
Relatives of Paul Varry also spoke. Speeches marked with sadness but sometimes also anger, given the circumstances of Paul's death.
“The only thing I can say, promise you: I will do my best to ensure that justice is done,” said one of his relatives during the secular ceremony.
“It was terrible, there are no words to describe what happened,” Eve, a close friend, told BFM DICI.
After the ceremony, a whole procession accompanied Paul and his loved ones to the La Faurie cemetery, where he was buried.
