One title of French Champion, two vice-champions and two bronze medals, the Martinique selection distinguished itself at the French Canoe-Kayak Championship in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne (Royan-Charente-Maritime) between October 30 and November 3, 2024.
Starting with four competitors (two women in the U15 category, one man in the U18 category and one senior man), the Martinique selection will return with a great harvest of medals, including a title of French Short Course Champion (5km) in the U15 category for Loraya. Jacques.
We are largely satisfied with the results. The objectives for categories 15 and 18 were to come back with at least two medals. Compared to last year's result, we wished for the title we obtained. The objectives that the technical team had set for themselves were achieved. It is the fruit of work carried out for 2 or 3 years with the entire regional technical team and the coaches. This season is the result of that work.
Jean-Louis Zébina, member of the regional technical team and one of the coaches of the Martinique selection.
In all, Martinique won five medals in different categories.
- French short race champion (5km) U15: Loraya Jacques
- Vice-champion long race (10km) U15: Loraya Jacques
- Vice-champion of France U18 in crew: Crew Yohan Molena and Loraya Jacques
- 3e course longue (10km) U15 : Luhann Duart
- 3e course courte (5km)U15 : Luhann Duart
Competitors Yohan Molena (U18 category) and Medrick Lewis (senior) complete the selection.
For the rest, we return to Martinique on Monday [NDLR 4 novembre]. Competitors will be on vacation for a minimum of two weeks or even a month. They had a long season. It started in August 2023 and it is November 2024. We have not yet met with the regional technical team, but I think we will consider sending the young people to the French team selections to participate in the Championships. European and World Championships next year. As well as the French Championships next season in order to do better than this year.
The competition which was held from October 30 to November 3 (the Martinique selection does not participate in any events on Sunday) welcomed nearly 300 participants selected by the French Canoe-Kayak and Paddle Sports Federation.
