Kaolack, June 6 (APS) – The president of the Kaolack Departmental Council, Ahmed Youssouf Bengelloune, announced funding for the restoration and recovery of salty and degraded lands.

“We have received a favorable opinion from a partner to finance studies relating to the restoration of the salty and degraded lands of Kaolack,” he said.

He spoke on Wednesday during the celebration of World Environment Day which was held at the premises of the Kaolack Departmental Council.

“These salty or degraded lands,” he said, “cover an area of ​​twenty-seven thousand hectares.”

“Together, we will launch reforestation projects, awareness campaigns on sustainable agricultural techniques and initiatives to improve the management of water resources,” he added.

The MP called on the Senegalese to adopt sustainable agricultural practices for a productive ecosystem.

”We must transform our degraded lands into productive and resilient ecosystems capable of supporting human life and biodiversity. For this, it is imperative to adopt sustainable agricultural practices,” he recommended.

“We must promote integrated management of water resources, restore degraded landscapes through initiatives to promote forestation and agroforestry,” he added.

He called for active participation of local communities, for the involvement of all for the success of these initiatives.

The theme of this edition is: ”Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience”.
