Flood prevention: more than 10 tonnes of branches cleared in the streams of the Lower Hérault Valley

As part of the fifth phase of the Multi-annual Watercourse Restoration and Maintenance Program, the GEMAPI (Aquatic Environment Management and Flood Prevention) teams have undertaken a major cleaning project on the Ardailhon and Courredous streams, crossing the communes of Bessan, Florensac, and Vias.

The intervention aims to limit the risk of flooding in the event of heavy rain. The agents carry out maintenance of the vegetation on the banks and remove bulky trunks and branches, likely to obstruct the watercourses. Started in October for a duration of approximately five weeks, the project has already made it possible to remove more than 10 tonnes of plant debris.

This project is part of the fifth phase of work of the management plan launched in 2020, with an overall budget of €240,103.16 over the period 2020-2025, including €76,574 for the current phase.

This funding is provided by the Water Agency (30%), the Region (1%) and the Agglo Hérault Méditerranée (69%).

These essential preventive actions will help protect inhabited areas against overflows and guarantee the safety of residents.
