Three bodies of migrants were washed up by the sea in Pas-de- on Wednesday. Earlier, another man was unable to be resuscitated by rescuers after a failed attempt to cross the Channel. In total, 60 people have died trying to reach England since the start of the year. A record.

Gendarmes, firefighters and volunteers are running in all directions to take care of the thirty or so shell-shocked migrants who have just tried to reach England from Hardelot beach, not far from Boulogne-sur-Mer, in the Pas- from Calais. Under their survival blanket, the survivors are trembling. Many are in tears. A Syrian shouts at his brother. Exhausted, a woman collapses. Next door, on the dike, emergency services are trying to resuscitate a man in his thirties who is in cardio-respiratory arrest. In vain. His cousin, nearby, screams in pain.
