After watching “Family duels” every day on his sofa, Véronique found herself on the set of the show. This 63-year-old bank retiree who lives in Linard-Malval in the north of Creuse took part in the France 3 game show hosted by Cyril Féraud.
The idea came from his daughter, who came to spend a few days of vacation with her parents. While watching the game as a family, his daughter suggested he apply. Véronique takes her word for it, and signs up without saying anything to anyone. Four people have to participate: she chooses her daughter Angéline, her eldest son Sébastien and her best friend Maryline. The family is selected and goes through two castings : “These are general knowledge questions, MCQs… they test us because they try to put two families of the same level face to face”says Véronique.
Then comes the big day of filming, September 19. Véronique and her loved ones arrive at 11:30 a.m. and do not leave until 8 p.m., “slammed”. In the meantime, they stop by the makeup booth, they have lunch with the cast members and the opposing family, and they record the five half-hour episodes. “The filming takes double the time, because there are a lot of cuts. Cyril Féraud is very professional, very meticulous, and charming.”
On the set, a real anthill
The Creuse family is impressed by the “anthill”: “There are a lot of people, running everywhere, at least fifty people!” Véronique felt “cocooned” between the hairdresser, the makeup artists, the kindness of the people… She says: “When we're on our couch we often respond much better than when we're on the TV set in the middle of filming: even if we know the answer, sometimes it doesn't come.” She claims there is no trickery : “The questions are not known in advance.”
“Family Duels” allows families to win a maximum of 13,000 euros. “We didn’t do it for the money, even if it’s nice to arrive with nothing and leave with something.”she explains. She is kept secret about the amount of winnings. Only her husband had the right to be in the secret.
Véronique has not yet seen the show. She fears being discovered on televisionbut she knows that she will be watched by many close people. This retiree believes that participating in a TV game, “It’s something to do at least once in your life”. She doesn't intend to settle for just one time: Véronique now has want to participate in other shows like 100% logical, Everyone wants to take their place or even Slam.
- The passage of Véronique and her family in “Duels en famille” is broadcast from Monday 4 to Friday 8 November at 4:45 p.m. on France 3.
