the essential
Faced with fatal accidents on the roads of the department affecting 25% of young people in 2023, the prefectural authorities of Tarn-et-Garonne see the first effects of the prevention action a “Permit for all”. The fourth edition will be held on November 16, 2024 at the Jean-de-Prades high school in Castelsarrasin.
With 25% of deaths on the roads of Tarn-et-Garonneor six of the 24 deaths recorded in 2023, young people aged 15 to 24 remain particularly exposed.
A situation which has been of great concern to Prefect Vincent Roberti since he took office in April 2023, and who has been supporting road safety prevention action for two years via the “Permit for all” operation. For its fourth edition, the event will be held for the first time outside Montauban, at the Jean-de-Prades high school, in Castelsarrasin, on Saturday November 16.
Initiated by the Montauban prosecutor, Bruno Sauvage during his previous assignment in Guéret (Creuse), this innovative action aims to raise awareness in a fun way for a category of users particularly exposed to accidents. (1).
“More than 200 young people have already participated in previous editions which are held in July and November”indicates Vincent Roberti, who held a press conference Tuesday at the prefecture to announce the opening of registrations and the trip of the interministerial delegate for road safety, Florence Guillaume.
Three license financings to be won
The icing on the cake for the participants: three young people selected from the expected hundred will win, after a quiz on the information provided during the day, the financing of their driving license.
A significant advantage, specify the organizers, knowing that obtaining the license costs up to 1,500 euros. A license that is all the more valuable in Tarn-et-Garonne, which ranks fourth among the departments where people use their cars the most in France.
This conference also allowed the authorities to recall the extent of the road dispute in the department. “Of the 16,000 crimes and misdemeanors recorded each year, certifies Bruno Sauvage, 50% are violations of the Highway Code. »
This figure, higher than that of neighboring courts, explains the suspension of 900 permits in 2023 and 650 since the start of the year. Alcohol, drugs while driving and speed are equally at the origin of these offenses, which still place Tarn-et-Garonne in sixth place among the most accident-prone departments in France.
“The young participants in the “Permit for All” then become, says the prosecutor, active ambassadors of road safety to their friends and loved ones. »
With only two deaths under the age of 25 out of the 18 recorded since the start of the year on the roads of Tarn-et-Garonne, Bruno Sauvage wants to believe that this is a first positive effect of the action which he launched.
