On June 21, the eyes of the whole Metropolis of Lyon will be riveted on Neuville-sur-Saône. The city, located north of Lyon, will host the Olympic flamethe only passage of the event in the Rhône.

Although Neuville is not one of the official stopover cities for the Olympic torch relay, it benefits from the project set up by the Sanofi group, official partner of Paris 2024which organizes parallel stops at four of its sites in France.

Olympic flame: what route in Neuville-sur-Saône?

The torch will be lit Friday June 21 at 1:15 p.m. in front of town hall. The torch’s journey will extend over 1.5 kilometers, from the town hall. It will pass through Parc d’Ombreval, Avenue Jean-Christophe and Quai Armand-Barbès before stopping at the Sanofi site.

At the same time, on the Saône, a nautical parade in the colors of Paris 2024 Olympics will escort the relay using dinghies.

Ten Sanofi employees will participate in this event. In total, 300 employees of the pharmaceutical company will carry the flame as it travels through France.

Neuville-sur-Saône: activities to celebrate the Olympic Games

After the official ceremony and the passing of the flame, the Olympic village will be in full swing from 2 p.m., with multiple activities and sporting demonstrations such as: nautical sailing baptisms, information stands on the health benefits of sport, introductions to fencing and many others activities.

For security reasons, traffic on the roads necessary for the passage of the Olympic flame will be prohibited from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The Neuville bridge remains open to traffic. It is therefore advisable to come by bus or train to have the chance to observe this flame.

During this time, the official torch relay will be in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in Vichy precisely (June 21), then will cross the Loire the next day (June 22).
