Businesses in Tarn-et-Garonne returned to the Septuors, an annual meeting dedicated to them since 2023. This Thursday, May 30, the department was once again the scene of this evening which highlights the economy local.

The evening was launched by Frédéric Touraille, Deputy Managing Director of La Dépêche du Midi, organizer of the event presenting the transformation of the group’s commercial agency renamed “evelyne”.

The ceremony took place in the heart of the Departmental Council in Montauban.

The Winner: DIPTYQUE AUDIO

Diptyque Audio, high-end aesthetic speakers

It is around Gilles Douziech and Éric Poux, two enthusiasts of acoustics and hi-fi, that the history of D&T Audio was born and with it, the emergence of exceptional products handcrafted under the name Audio Diptych.

A new type of speaker

The meeting between Gilles Douziech and Éric Poux in 1999, two sound enthusiasts since adolescence and employees of the Montauban Hospital where they work in the technical department, generated a great entrepreneurial adventure. “At the time, I was experimenting with slightly different speakers and flat speakers. It was from these prototypes that the idea came to develop sound tables to improve the speakers and achieve a sound quality worthy of high-end hi-fi. For this, we took inspiration from an American brand and we developed solutions, including a patent which improves what this brand did” says Gilles Douziech. It is this famous patent which was filed in 2017 following a long process. It is an isodynamic enclosure, a sort of large, very thin membrane in which aluminum ribbons are glued and on which bar magnets are placed. It is this action which allows a very large membrane to vibrate. “It’s very flat, only two centimeters thick, and the sound comes out over the entire surface of a large door. Instead of having conventional speakers, we vibrate this very large membrane which allows for a much more natural immersive sound when it is diffused in space,” he continues.

A very complementary team

When one brings his expertise in mechanics with journeyman training, the other excels in electronics and acoustics after training as an electronics engineer. It is this very complementary team that first launched into its own business to test its product and see its first sales. In 2016, they won the start-up competition organized by the Greater Montauban agglomeration, which allowed them to have start-up financing and reception in a business incubator. Since then, the team has grown stronger year after year, with speakers that sell all over the world. “We hired a young local designer, then we strengthened the team to produce in series, before purchasing premises in Montauban to install the various workstations, and investing in a numerically controlled machine” comments one partners. Made up of six people in 2024, the company is constantly growing with already 600,000 euros in turnover achieved.

A target: music lovers and music enthusiasts

A niche market targeting those who want a quality hi-fi system, the Diptyque Audio range is available in five products for a budget starting at 6,700 euros per pair of speakers, going up to 46,000 euros per pair, and is now based on a second patent filed in 2020 which further improves hearing quality. Nearly 90% of this production is exported to 35 countries including the USA, the largest market, further reinforced by the presence of D&T Audio at the Chicago Motor Show in April 2024.

A local sourcing approach

Since the start of the adventure, the entrepreneurial duo has maintained an obvious CSR commitment to have the lowest possible environmental impact. Thus, all the elements of the speakers are made locally with local partners less than 20 km away: sheet metal parts in Montauban, painting in Bressols, packaging in Aucamville, wood from Landes, etc.
