Change operating system

These two Romanians were in possession of a laptop which they had to connect to the distributor in order to install this malicious software. “With the use of a specific cable, this laptop was to make it possible to connect with the distributor and to modify and reprogram its operating system”explains the Namur public prosecutor’s office.

But the operation did not go as smoothly as expected. The two Romanians encountered difficulties in placing this cable and came into contact with another person to guide them.

The third defendant, also of Romanian origin, denies being this person. However, a few elements concern the court. First, research into how to tamper with an ATM was carried out using a computer found at his partner’s house. “They date from 2008”reacts Me Boudry, his lawyer. Secondly, the man has already been convicted in the United States for skimming, which consists of stealing bank card data from ATMs. Finally, the number with which the two brothers came into contact on the night of the incident was located near his partner’s home. Despite everything, Me Boudry pleads for acquittal. “There are a lot of unclear areas that haven’t been cleared up.”

For the two other defendants found in the agency’s airlock, a simple declaration of guilt is requested on the basis of exceeding the reasonable time limit. Judgment on November 28.
