Equi’Aude has been back since yesterday and until this evening in Carcassonne. The opportunity for those who wish to learn horse riding.
The first activities began between 8 and 9 a.m. this Saturday, June 1st. Horse riding is in the spotlight in Carcassonne with the new edition of Equi’Aude. This Saturday was mainly oriented towards the initiation and discovery of this sporting practice: “The riders gather around 1 p.m. at Lac de la Cavayères and ride up to the Cité for an arrival scheduled around 5:30 p.m. in front of the Porte Narbonnaise. The parade takes place from 6 p.m. until ‘La Fajeolle racecourse’, recalls the president of the departmental riding committee, Pierre-Yves Castel. The evening concludes with a “Riders” evening.
This Sunday, June 2, it’s the competitors’ turn to take the stage, on their horses. Indeed, this day consists of the organization of three competitions in which 200 professional riders participate. “Among the competitions, we find the official show jumping, dressage and driving competitions”, underlines Pierre-Yves Castel, specifying that this year, the particularity is to have Spanish crews and teams. These competitions start at 9 a.m. and will end between 5 p.m. for dressage and driving. For its part, show jumping ends at 6 p.m. And all of these activities take place at the La Fajeolle racecourse.
Many clubs in the department
For this event, it is also local roots that take precedence. The majority of participants come from the 45 riding clubs in the Aude department. “Not all are present, but many come from here”, underlines Pierre-Yves Castel. But it is also clubs from neighboring departments that go to this event. Among them, Tarn or Ariège.
In addition to sporting competitions, other activities are organized: temporary pony club, carriage rides and mechanical bull, photo booths, Citroën-DS exhibition vehicles. It is also possible to eat on site, with fast food stands or another so-called “official” one with a two-course barbecue: 1 and 2 p.m.
