“Let’s go to Mexico!!!”. On her Instagram account, this miss appears at the airport, about to board the plane. Her photo shows several suitcases around her and two flags: a French one which she brandishes out loud, a Mexican one placed on her suitcase. The Guadeloupean, Indira Ampiot, elected Miss in 2023, hopes to succeed the Niicaraguayan Sheynnis Palacios as Miss Universe.

“Heading to Mexico to represent France in the Miss Universe competition next November!!! Miss Universe has always been a dream to achieve. I am determined to make France shine and try to win the crown! “, we read in his pinned post.

A native of Terre-Basse, Indira Ampiot will be the second Miss France from Guadeloupe to represent France in an international beauty contest this year. In March, Miss France 2020, Clémence Botino, participated in the Miss World competition in New Delhi where she finished in the top 40.

A “fairly intense” preparation

Indira Ampiot is determined to do better. In an interview given to our colleagues at TF1Info, the beauty queen announced that she had prepared “quite intensely”. English lessons in London, catwalk lessons, makeup, hairdressing, styling and sports, twice a week.

The task promises to be complicated. In Mexico City, the 20-year-old will face 80 other beauty queens from around the world. As a reminder, only two French women have managed to be elected Miss Universe: Christiane Martel in 1953 and Iris Mittenaere in 2016.

Since the founding of the competition by the Californian clothing company Pacific Mills in 1952, the United States has been the country with the most elected representatives (9 Miss Universe), followed by Venezuela (7 Miss) and Puerto Rico (5 Miss). Owned by Donald Trump since 1996, the Miss Universe competition has since 2022 been owned by a Thai transgender businesswoman, Anne Jakkapong.

The French will be able to follow the final of this competition on Saturday November 16 from 3 a.m. on Première.
