On the eve of the first act of the double friendly confrontation against South Africa, the coach of the Senegal women’s team, Mame Moussa Cissé, expressed his perspectives and expectations at a press conference. The Senegalese technician believes that these friendly matches are of capital importance in assessing the team’s ability to progress and adapt to the demands of international competition. These confrontations will provide a valuable opportunity to measure the strength and cohesion of the team.

Team composition and preparation

For our group, we have 14 professionals who play in France. The others play in the Senegalese championship, most of whom are at the Aigles club, champions of Senegal. In our group, some played in Senegal and then obtained contracts in Europe, around 7 or 8. We also have players who are still in the local championship and a few dual nationals who are arriving today. »

Objectives and ambitions

The backbone of our team is made up of these different categories of players. We will try to see with our team what we can achieve to form the best group possible. We will consider recruiting additional players if necessary, as our ambition is to have a team capable of achieving good results at the next CAN. »

Past performance and development

“During the last CAN, we were very close to the final and qualification for the world championship. We were one of the best teams, even if we were not expected at this level. We showed good things, but now it is important to see where we are in relation to this performance. In between, we played World Cup play-offs, qualifiers, and friendly matches. We saw a team that is gaining strength. »

Importance of the confrontation against South Africa

“Today, it is crucial to have real barometers and real tests. I think the South African team is the best possible barometer for where we are. We have two matches which will allow us to see which players are capable of supporting our project and taking Senegal to the highest level. It is very important for us to meet South Africa. It’s the kind of match that every player wants to play, because they are matches that make you grow. »
