“It’s been a while since we’ve had such a serious accident,” sighed a firefighter from Seine-et-Marne this Saturday. Around 11:40 a.m., a heavy goods vehicle which was not transporting dangerous goods hit “the light vehicle which preceded it”, “resulting in chain collisions”, said in a press release the public prosecutor of Meaux, Jean-Baptiste Bladier . The accident occurred on the A104 motorway, in the direction of national road 2, near the town of Villeparisis, in Seine-et-Marne.

In the first car, the 36-year-old driver lost her life. The man who was with her, who is the same age, was seriously injured. He was taken to the Jossigny hospital center. “Three people are currently in a state of absolute emergency and ten other people are injured,” detailed the magistrate in a final report.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle, injured, was transported to the Bobigny hospital center (Seine-Saint-Denis). A fourth injured person, a man whose age is currently unknown, was taken to the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital center (Val-de-Marne). Among the other motorists, some were slightly injured, others were not affected.

The heavyweight did not consume alcohol or drugs

Around forty firefighters spread across around fifteen engines came to rescue the victims. They had to extricate some of them. A Smur helicopter went to the scene to take one of the seriously injured to hospital as quickly as possible. “Six intensive care ambulances responded to the scene, not to mention the fire engines. This device was well sized to take care of patients very quickly, and it is now almost lifted,” explained François Dolveck, head of Samu 77.

The Est Île-de-France motorway republican security company (CRS) completely cut off traffic during the intervention. Fuel escaping in large quantities from the heavy goods vehicle and spilling onto the road, firefighters had to plug the leak and spread absorbent product on the road. The rescue operation ended around 3:30 p.m.

An investigation has been opened. It was entrusted to the CRS Est IDF motorway. At the hospital, the driver of the heavy goods vehicle was taken into custody on charges of “homicide and involuntary injuries by the driver,” the prosecutor said. The results of his drug test came back negative. “New press releases will follow as the investigations progress,” added the magistrate, recalling that the national victim assistance federation can be reached at the following number: 116 006.
