Appointed by decree of the President of the Republic on October 9, Marie-Charlotte Euvrard begins her new role this Monday as chief of staff of the prefect of Gard, Jérôme Bonet. At 40 years old, this former army officer, trained in Saint-Cyr, has a very atypical career path.

A female fighter: from Afghanistan to Mali…

Her military past, marked by a specialization in artillery within the 68th African artillery regiment in La Valbonne, took her to external theaters of operations: from Afghanistan to Mali via Djibouti or Guyana again.

“My first part of my career took place in the world of defense, with numerous projections into conflict zones,” she says. Missions which have given her solid field experience, where rapid decision-making is crucial. She then completed this background with a transition to civil administration, notably as an instructor at the École Polytechnique, where she trained future senior executives. It was at this time that she joined the prefectural body, first as sub-prefect, deputy general secretary in charge of social cohesion and city policies in , in .

Two years spent in Guyana

Two years in Guyana, as a project manager for the prefect, then enriched her experience, particularly on sensitive issues such as the fight against illegal gold panning and cross-border cooperation with Brazil and Surinam. “Security issues were paramount there, as was the question of access to public services in remote areas,” she explains, highlighting issues “which can absolutely be transposed to the Gard”.

“I am aware that drug trafficking will be one of my priorities here”

Now in Nîmes, Marie-Charlotte Euvrard is preparing to face new challenges, in particular on security issues, an area for which she was widely requested in her previous functions. “I am aware that drug trafficking will be one of my priorities here, but I remain available for all the files that the prefect will entrust to me,” she specifies.

“Crisis management and responsiveness”

A second career therefore opens up for Marie-Charlotte Euvrard, after her years spent in the Army and in theaters of operations. At 40, she approaches this new role with enthusiasm, admitting to finding “a similar intensity in crisis management and the responsiveness required within the prefectural body. My military experience was ideal training to make the right decisions quickly.”
