Rugby: Canal + will broadcast matches from the French women’s championship

A nice spotlight on the French women’s championship: Canal+ will broadcast several matches from Elite 1, the first division, this season. The first will be broadcast on Saturday November 2, 2024 between the women’s teams from Clermont and those from Union -Bègles, two hours after the meeting between the men’s teams from these same cities. In total, this season, five female posters will be broadcast by Canal in addition to the final.

More visibility for women’s rugby

It is the first time that several matches in the same season will be commented on by Canal+. The last meeting dates back to January 2015, a few months after the World Cup in , with the Villeneuve d’Ascq – match. These broadcasts were made possible thanks to an agreement between the federation, which organizes the Elite 1 championship, canal + and the LNR, which manages the men’s championship.

The three organizations specify that “the agreement (…) provides for the broadcast over the 2024/2025 season of several event matches which will take place around a Top 14 poster from the same home club and in the same stadium”.

“One of our major challenges was also to make women’s rugby even more visible, accessible and attractive in France and to publicize it”welcomed Florian Grill, just re-elected president of the FFR, in the press release, seeing this “a decisive turning point for the exhibition” of the championship.
