Sunday October 20, the 19th Seine-Eure Marathon once again brought together thousands of running enthusiasts, athletes and spectators alike. For this 2024 edition, the number of registrants exceeded expectations, with 3,659 participants, a record for the event. Among them, 821 runners lined up for the marathon, 1,243 for the half-marathon, and 260 teams took part in the Ekiden.

Fabrice Bréant, responsible for the half-marathon and vice-president of the Marathon Sport Événement (AMSE) association, declared: “After the 650 registered for the first edition, we limited the number of registered which still reached 1,243”. Despite the cool weather this Sunday, there were many spectators, particularly during the final straight to the finish line, on avenue des Falaises, in Val-de-Reuil (Eure).

Alaa Hrioued’s new victory

The men’s marathon was won by Alaa Hrioued from the Coquelicot club in Saint-Etienne (42), already a four-time winner of the event. Among the women, it was Fanjanteino Felix from Stade Sottevillais 76 who took first place. “This is my first major competition of the season following an Achilles tendon injury. I am very happy to have once again won the marathon here in Val-de-Reuil,” confided the football enthusiast and supporter of AS Saint-Etienne at the finish before adding: “I thank my coach , Mustapha Krautib for all his advice and I dedicate this victory to my son Imran who is 7 years old.”

For the half-marathon, starting from Parc des Aulnes in Vaudreuil, the Kenyan David Sheserek won among the men, followed by the Moroccan Hassan El Kaouahi. Isaac Koech, winner of the marathon in 2023, placed fifth. On the women’s side, Ethiopian Bikile Gudina won the event. Beata Niemyjska, licensed at VRAC, finished third. “Beata had a great race despite the strong competition. We are very proud of her in Val-de-Reuil,” rejoiced the president of VRAC, Jean-Luc Vandel at the end of the event.

260 teams on the Ekiden

The Ekiden, which offers to participate in the relay race, brought together 260 teams, each made up of six runners. SPN stood out by winning the first two places, ahead of local club VRAC. The first mixed team, also from SPN Vernon, took fifth place.

Local elected officials presented the awards to the athletes. Among them, Marc-Antoine Jamet, mayor of Val-de-Reuil, Bernard Leroy, president of the Seine-Eure Agglomeration, and other political figures, congratulated the participants and thanked the 650 volunteers as well as the bikers of the ANEC for their commitment who “contributed through their dedication to the success of this 19th edition of the Seine-Eure marathon. »

Social and intercultural engagement

Several humanitarian and intercultural associations participated in this event. The Manoir-sur-Seine association “A handicap, a challenge”, created in 2021, was present with three teams for the Ekiden. The association manager declared: “We are setting ourselves challenges to raise funds and the next one is to be able to rehabilitate a center for autistic people near Saint-André de l’Eure. »

The Val-de-Reuil twinning committee also welcomed the towns of Ritterhude (Germany) and Sztum (Poland), strengthening intercultural relations through this sporting event. Local businesses also participated in large numbers. AGP Industrie d’Évreux, specializing in project management assistance, has hired around fifteen employees. Benoist, one of the leaders, said: “This is the first time we have come and we had a good time with our two teams competing in the Ekiden. Next year, some of us will perhaps do the marathon… of course with a lot of training. »
