On October 16, 2024, Jean-René Etchegaray, mayor of Bayonne, and Charles Dayot, mayor of Mont-de-Marsan, met to discuss the dates of the Bayonne and Madeleine Festivals. The two cities, responsible for organizing these major events, have agreed on several common objectives: ensuring the safety and efficiency of events, pooling resources, and preserving cultural traditions, particularly with regard to bullfights. Bayonne expressed specific priorities, such as reducing crowds in its historic center, avoiding the last week of July for festivals, and maintaining ties with Pamplona. Mont-de-Marsan insisted on respecting the history of the Madeleine festivals and wanted to avoid competition between the two events, then not force the actors and other festayres to make choices between these two festivals. The Mayors therefore decided to establish a dialogue to anticipate the dates of future editions. For 2025, the Bayonne Festivals will be held from July 9 to 13, while those of Mont-de-Marsan will take place from July 16 to 20. In 2026, the Bayonne Festivals will take place from July 15 to 19, and those of Mont-de-Marsan from July 22 to 26.
