THE 38-year-old defendant who appeared this Thursday May 23, 2024 At judicial court of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche) is now determined on its fate.

In the midday hour it was recognized as “fully responsible” of the facts with which he was accused. He was sentenced to prison sentence of seven years.

This native of Cherbourg was prosecuted for “manslaughter […] committed with at least two aggravating circumstances as repeat offenders” (lack of driving license and hit-and-run) and “illicit use of narcotics committed between 1er July 2023 and February 2, 2024 in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

Arash, a 20-year-old Afghan

On January 25, 2024, Arash, a 20-year-old Afghan, was fatally struck by his car while he was driving on a scooter at the station intersection.


The motorist fled before hiding his vehicle in the garage of a couple of friends in Tourlaville. Denounced, he was arrested in an apartment on rue de Bretagne, in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, a week after the events. The victim had worked for around two years as a service agent at the La Demeure du Maupas nursing home.

The condemned was returned to detention following the verdict.

A referral hearing on the interests of the civil parties will be held on November 25, 2024at 11:30 a.m.
